Find your best fit

Choosing a college is hard because everyone's priorities are different. One student wants top-tier academics and close access to professors. Another wants a big-game atmosphere in a warm climate. Most people haven't fully sorted out what they want yet, and that's normal.

So the Fit Finder starts by asking you to rank what matters, not by asking about everything. Your top five priorities each count equally toward your fit, and those priorities decide which follow-up questions you see.

Then the Fit Finder checks your GPA and test scores against each school's average GPA and middle-50% test range. Schools you clear comfortably can be best or good fits. Schools just below the line are potential fits. Anything that admits 15% or fewer applicants is a reach for everyone.

The ten priorities you'll rank

  • Geographic LocationHow close to or far from home, and which parts of the country interest you.
  • WeatherThe climate you will live in day to day: sunny, four seasons, snow, or rain.
  • Size of CollegeHow big the student body feels, from small and close-knit to large and full of energy.
  • Academic ProgramsThe majors and areas of study a school is known for in the fields you care about.
  • Athletic RecruitmentWhether you want to be recruited to play a sport in college, and how much that shapes your list.
  • Cost & ScholarshipsWhat your family can afford, plus the aid and scholarships a school might offer.
  • Campus VibeThe overall feel of a school: setting, energy, and whether it feels like a place you belong.
  • Career OutcomesHow well a school sets you up for the job or grad-school path you are hoping for.
  • ExtracurricularsThe clubs, arts, volunteering, and activities outside class that matter to you.
  • Undergrad ResearchChances to work on real research with professors as an undergraduate.
